The Description of Foam Concrete

Lightweight foam concrete has good mechanical strength along with high thermal insulation indexes and extensive density amplitude.

Some advantage of using lightweight foam concrete includes:

  • a low price for foam concrete to compare it with that of other materials;
  • good thermal insulation characteristics allow to save energy while exploitation (heating and air conditioning);
  • lightweight composite materials and foam concrete involve lower construction expenses and more effective construction design;
  • very low processing and transportation expenses;
  • the weight of the concrete is from 10% to 80 % lower to compare it with the standard heavyweight concrete, depending on the composition of the mixture and the materials used;
  • considerable weight reduction results in the saving of framed constructions, bearers or piles. Such savings are often divisible by the actual value of the material.
  • saving of transportation expenses, reduction of the required carrying capacity of the lifting crane and reduction of human resources;
  • use of lightweight foam concrete in prefabricated and shell construction requires a crane of lower carrying capacity, minimum effort for erection;
  • lightweight foam concrete can be sawed with a handsaw, hewed and spiked.
  • Lightweight foam concrete is very easy to level and it can be used as overlay with thickness up to 40 mm.

The use of foam concrete in construction is becoming more and more common.

Here there are some typical fields of using the concrete nowadays:

  • It is used for making roofs and floors as thermal and sound insulation (i.e. it itself is not a structural material).
  • It is also used for the construction of tennis courts and for the filling of hollows in brickwork of underground walls, as insulation for hollow blocks and for any other infilling required high insulating properties.
  • It is used for making prefabricated blocks and partition panels, suspended ceiling covering slabs, thermal and sound insulation in multilevel apartment and commercial constructions. The concrete of this density is also perfect for volumetric infilling.
  • The material is used in concrete blocks and panels of outside walls and partitions, concrete slabs for roof topping and intermediate floors.
  • The material is used in prefabricated panels of any size for commercial and industrial use, in monolithic walls, garden decorations and in other fields.

Foam concrete blocks are used for reconstruction of old buildings, construction of agricultural projects and individual dwelling projects; they protect walls and premises against penetrating radiation.

The blocks can be effectively used for:

  • laying of bearing walls;
  • intermediate floors
  • partitions;
  • sommerhouses, garages.

Properties of foam concrete:

  • perfect thermal and sound insulation;
  • predetermined durability and thermal conductivity;
  • environmental safety, incombustibility;
  • excellent frost- and fire resistance;
  • simplicity in laying and processing;
  • low cost and labour-output ratio.

The Scope of Foam Concrete:

  • monolithic building construction;
  • thermal insulation of roofs;
  • thermal and sound insulation of walls, floors, floor slabs ;
  • filling of hollow spaces;
  • making blocks, slabs, etc.
  • thermal insulation of roofs - foam concrete of low density has excellent thermal properties of insulation;
  • filling of trench hollows - foam concrete does not sink, does not require vibration compaction, it possesses excellent load sharing characteristics, providing for high-quality filling;
  • filling of hollows - foam concrete is very fluid and it can be used for filling of any hollows, even in the most difficultly accessible places through small openings;
  • storage partitions - the walls bearing no loading can be cast of foam concrete immediately on the site;
  • lightening of bridges - the use of foam concrete enables to apply thinner concrete structures, to reduce the basement size and the number of the piers;
  • use in construction of tunnels - foam concrete is used to infill the hollows, which appear when tunnels are built;
  • floor blocks - foam concrete can be used for leveling and making floor blocks. - It saves time and money;
  • the base for roads - when foam concrete is used as a base for building roads, such roads are lighter in weight, they do not sink into the soft ground in comparison with the roads, where the conventional broken stone is used as a basis;
  • blocks and panels - blocks and panels made of foam concrete are light-weight and can be produced according to the Customer's specification with wide-ranging sizes, durability and density;
  • reclamation - the advantage of foam concrete is that unlike the conventional sand and broken stone, it does not sink into the soft subsoil, so a certain part can be reclamated for months and even years earlier and it results in considerable saving;
  • etc.

The Merits of Foam Concrete:

  • it does not sink and requires no consolidation;
  • it is light-weigh and does not provide considerable loading;
  • it is liquid and enables to infill any hollows;
  • it possesses excellent load sharing characteristics;
  • it does not require vibration compaction while laying;
  • it does not require further servicing after the laying;
  • high thermal and sound insulation;
  • weak moisture adsorption during the whole period;
  • high temperature difference stability;
  • it does not make any side load;
  • excellent flameproof properties;
  • it is highly profitable material;
  • it is harmless material;
  • it is reliable quality control;

The comparative characteristics of foam concrete and conventional walling:

Walling Density kg/m3 K-factor W/mK Wall thickness required, m Mass of 1 m2 of the wall, kg
Ceramic brick 1800 0.8 0.64 1190
Lime-sand brick 1850 0.85 0.64 1250
Limestone sawn 1600 0.35 0.35 880
Slag brick 1400 0.65 0.55 880
Foam concrete 700 0.18 0.3 210

The foam concrete blocks production line provides manufacture of foam concrete of various density and for different purposes, which enables to produce a full set of building products that can be used for construction of, for instance, a cottage.

The mobile compact concrete plant copes perfectly with the tasks above!

The mobile multifunctional compact plant makes and supplies liquid foam concrete. It enables to pour self-leveling floor background, which possesses heightened sound insulation and low thermal conductivity properties.

The plant Is Also Intended for:

  • warming of foam concrete attics;
  • pouring of foam concrete into formwork;
  • pouring of foam concrete into well laying;
  • other problems solutions.

The relatively small size of the plant enables to use it at any construction project and even on the floors.
